Polar Plunge 2008

The Senseless Saints were Freezin’ for a Reason.

With the mantra of Plunge or Pledge - Please!!!!, Saint Vincent’s participated, for the third consecutive year, in the Polar Plunge. The Polar Plunge is organized by the New England Network (NEN), which is an advocacy group that supports non-profit Human Service agencies that work with youth who have special needs, as well as having suffered from abuse and/or neglect. This support includes 50 non-profit programs serving over 20,000 youth. A significant portion of the money pledged goes to Saint Vincent’s with the rest going NEN to sustain their advocacy efforts for our important human service work.

This year on, Sunday, February 5, 2008, at 1 PM, the Senseless Saints (our Plunging Team’s name) plunged into the cold Atlantic from the Curley Recreation Center in South Boston, MA. Though our total raised is unknown at this time, our Team braved a 37º water temperature, buoyed by a chill factor of 4º, enhanced with a 42º air temperature.

The Senseless Saints had several returning members as the core of our Team. They included Scott Steele, Brian Brisson, Ryan Morin, Jay Douglass, and Tom Loftus. Newly added to the Team this year were Stephanie Costa, Steve Couto, Jared Hebert, Richard Korelsick, Natasha Medeiros, Jamie Mello, and Allison Ferreira. Our Team has blossomed from 8 Plungers last year to 12 this year. This is our first year having women join our Team.

We wish to thank all of our generous supporters including those who witnessed the Team plunge joining the Team in South Boston. Maybe next year we will have even more brave the elements as we hope to increase our level of support including Plungers and sponsors.
