Learn About Us

For over 100 years, Saint Vincent's mission has been to provide a safe place for children in need to live. In the early days since its founding as on orphanage, Saint Vincent's provided a home for children whose parent(s) were unable to care for them due to the ill health or death of a parent, lack of financial means or other family challenges. Over the years, Saint Vincent's has adapted its programs and service delivery system to meet the changing needs of children and their families who are coping with a variety of difficulties, which include abuse, neglect, poverty, addictions, mental illness emotional and behavioral problems as well as challenges to learning.

Recently, within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and across the country, there has been considerable focus on maintaining children within their own families and communities and relying less on separating families through long-term out-of-home placements. Through collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Social Services as well as other child-serving state agencies, the Massachusetts Department of Education, and Massachusetts Department of Medial Assistance through the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership, Saint Vincent's continues to refine its programs and service delivery, which has resulted in many significant changes in the type(s) and location of each of our levels of care.

When separation from family is necessary, Saint Vincent's strives to reunite children with a family as quickly as possible. Working with many and varied community resources, we provide a wide array of services and levels of care to fulfill our mission to Give Children and Families in Need What They Need Most. We work with families to restore hope and promote growth and change by providing comprehensive and interdisciplinary assessment and treatment services. Care is offered in a non-judgmental manner, honoring the cultural diversity of each child and family.
