Staff Development CQI Team

The Staff Development CQI Team has worked hard over the last fiscal year to accomplish their set goals.  To begin, the team continued to keep staff training as a priority.  We created and implemented two new trainings this year: Confidentiality & Responsibility and PTSD.

The first training, Confidentiality & Responsibility, was a direct result of agency staff requesting that we look at training requirements and try to more efficiently present some of the mandatory training requirements.  As a result we were able to combine Clinical Training (2 hrs) and HIPAA Training (1 hour) into this new training (1 hour).

The creation of the second training, PTSD, was a result of Quality Council reviewing physical management data and determining the youth who required the most physical management have a background involving trauma.  Therefore the Staff Development Team was given the challenge of helping create a new PTSD training in an effort to increase staff awareness of the impact of trauma on youth, the effects of physical management on traumatized youth and to reduce the occasions of physical management.

In addition, the Staff Development Team brought in an outside consultant, Dr. Steve Berk from Community Program Innovations to teach a Trauma Informed Care Training in April 2009. Dr Berk held two sessions. Saint Vincent’s was able to train 151 employees.

The team also revised and updated several existing trainings; Adult/Child Relations, Limit Setting, and Fire Safety (new video).

Lastly over this past year, this team continued to review and answer all staff suggestions placed in the staff suggestion boxes.  This process has become a great additional line of communication between direct care employees and management.
